The Gynaechoice team is made up of four highly skilled consultant gynaecologists, all with a shared commitment to the highest standards of patient care, with the common aim of providing a first-class private gynaecological service for patients in the UK and overseas.
Together we have a real depth and breadth of knowledge enabling us to offer specialist expertise on a wide range of conditions. Every one of our team regularly host and attend courses and submit to, edit and read scientific journals to keep fully up to date with the latest gynaecological advances.In keeping with our belief that first-class care should be easily and rapidly accessible, we aim to see any patient within 48 hours – or sooner if it’s urgent. You can see any of our gynaecologists at any of our three hospitals; the Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital, The Spire Hospital Southampton, and Sarum Road Hospital in Hampshire.
Mr Adam Moors
consultant gynaecologist
Mr Adam Moors trained in medicine at St Mary’s Hospital in London between 1982 and 1987, attaining the degree of MBBS. He trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, initially at The Samaritan Hospital for Women and St Mary’s Hospital in London before moving on to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He was a senior registrar in Southampton and Winchester and was appointed Consultant Gynaecologist to University Hospital Southampton in 1999 as the head of laparoscopic surgery.
He became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1993. He was then elevated to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2005.
He went on to gain an MD research thesis studying the immunological responses to the HPV vaccine which is now in widespread use. He is currently involved in active research into the causes and treatment of endometriosis and has written widely on the subject, both in medical journals and text books.
Mr Moors specialises in gynaecological laparoscopic surgery. His training in this innovative area of surgery was both in this country and in the world renowned centre for endoscopic surgery in Clermont Ferrand in France. He particularly specialises in the laparoscopic surgical treatment of endometriosis and leads the BSGE accredited endometriosis centre in Southampton. He was for 8 years the national lead for endometriosis through the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy and established a national network of centres for severe endometriosis.
Mr Moors specialises in reproductive surgery and pelvic pain. As a senior consultant in Southampton he established a laparoscopic approach to hysterectomy and now over 85% of hysterectomies are managed through keyhole surgery. He is employed by the NHS on a full time basis as a senior consultant gynaecologist in Southampton where he leads the risk department.
Mr Ken Metcalf
Consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncologist
Mr Ken Metcalf is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists and the Royal College of Surgeons. He obtained his MD Research Doctorate with Imperial Cancer Research in relation to studies on Ovarian Cancer. He has undertaken additional postgraduate fellowship programmes in gynaecological surgery in both England and Australia and is an RCOG registered and accredited specialist surgeon for the management of gynaecological cancer.
He is a Consultant Gynaecologist at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). In his clinical role there he undertakes a wide range of complex in-patient surgical surgical services, including laparoscopic and open approaches. He also conducts several out-patient clinics including those dedicated to colposcopy, abnormal perimenopausal bleeding, vulval skin disorders and a combined specialty oncology clinic. He participates in supporting the emergency gynaecology service.
At UHS Mr Metcalf has held a range of senior leadership roles. He has been the Lead Clinician for the Colposcopy and Gynaecological Oncology service and subsequently Lead Clinician for all UHS Cancer Services. He remains a Core Member of the UHS weekly Regional Gynaecology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meeting.
Mr Metcalf is a visiting consultant to The Royal County Hospital at Winchester and provides consulting and surgical services to the Medical Specialist Group, Guernsey.

Mr Keith Louden
consultant gynaecologist
Mr Louden is the Senior Consultant Gynaecologist at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and the Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust. He was appointed in 1995 to develop minimal access surgery with both laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, alongside general gynaecology and has introduced a number of new clinics and surgical procedures.
His interests include endometriosis and pelvic pain for which he runs a specialist clinic. He is the lead endometriosis surgeon in the Basingstoke and Winchester Trust and, along with Mr Moors, he holds national accreditation with the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy for the surgical treatment of patients with the most complex deep infiltrating endometriosis. Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery is employed using the technical of excision of the endometriosis tissue and these cases are performed with an experienced surgical assistant. He also runs specialist clinics for patients with menstrual disorders where he offers Outpatient assessment with hysteroscopy with the choice of general anaesthetic if preferred. He has a longstanding interest in the menopause and HRT where he commonly delivers lectures both to consultant colleagues, GPs and patients alike.
He trained at Nottingham University graduating in 1983 and holds a post-graduate degree (MD) in reproductive physiology. In 1993, he spent twelve months undertaking a laparoscopic surgery training fellowship in Melbourne, Australia. He became member of the RCOG in 1990 and fellow in 2001. Mr Louden is a longstanding member of the British Society for gynaecological endoscopy and sat on the national council for over ten years leading guidelines development. He hosted the national meeting of the Society in Winchester in 2001. He has served on the editorial board of the post-graduate journal The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.
He is married with two children and enjoys tennis, fishing and cooking in his spare time.

Mr Louden sees patients at the Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital, Chandlers Ford and BMI Sarum Road Hospital, Winchester. Patients may choose traditional face-to-face Outpatient consultations or telephone/virtual consultations (TEAMs).
Mr Ash Monga
consultant urogynaecologist
Mr Ash Monga has been a consultant gynaecologist and sub-specialist urogynaecologist in the University Hospital Southampton trust since 1997. He was the first person to go through the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists sub-speciality training in urogynaecology. This led to his main interest in the area of the pelvic floor, including urinary incontinence, prolapse and faecal incontinence. He is a senior NHS consultant in Southampton where he practices urogynaecology as well as a general gynaecological workload.
He directs a tertiary referral centre and therefore has patients referred from many parts of the South of England by other gynaecologists. Southampton is recognised for urogynaecology both at a national and international level. He has a research programme with the research being presented at national and international meetings.
Mr Monga has a keen interest in education and training and has edited several text books both for medical students and post-graduates
Mr Monga has been a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists since 1992. He was Chairman of the meetings committee of the British society of Urogynaecology and then secretary of the British Society of Urogynaecology. He serves on the standardisation committee of the International Continence Society and has recently finished his term as Chairman of the publications committee of the International Urogynaecology Association.
Dr Susanne Johnson
Associate Specialist in Gynaecology
Dr Susanne Johnson is an Associate Specialist in Gynaecology at the Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton where she has worked since 2000. Her speciality is Gynaecological Ultrasound especially in the diagnosis of endometriosis and the prediction of malignancy in ovarian cysts.
The diagnosis of endometriosis is often delayed by around 8 years as the symptoms of pelvic pain overlap with other conditions, and because in the past, this was a difficult diagnosis to make on ultrasound. Susanne specialises in the diagnosis of endometriosis on ultrasound, especially Deep Endometriosis (affecting the bowel) and Ovarian Endometriomas.
